Moon Phase by Birthday
The Moon was in a particular phase the day you were born — and it shapes your emotional style. Find yours.
Your natal moon phase is the relationship between the Sun and Moon at your birth — the light you were born under.
What your birth moon phase means
Everyone knows their Moon sign, but fewer know their natal moon phase — the shape the Moon was making with the Sun on the day they were born. It runs from New Moon to Full Moon and back, and the phase you arrived under is said to colour your instincts, your timing and how you move through your own cycles of beginning and completing.
How the calculator works
This tool computes the exact positions of the Sun and Moon for your birth date and measures the angle between them. That angle — the Moon's elongation — places you in one of the eight classic phases, from the seed-like New Moon to the fully lit Full Moon and the releasing phases that follow.
The eight phases
New, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter and Waning Crescent — each carries its own theme of starting, building, peaking or letting go. Read what your phase says about you in the moon-phase guide, or work with the live lunar cycle in the Moon collection.
