What is on a moon calendar

Four things, and each month page has all of them. The phase: the eight familiar names are 45-degree slices of the angle between the Sun and the Moon, so each one covers three or four days — the day-by-day table reads them at noon UTC. The lunations: the new moon and the full moon are single instants, not days, and they are given to the minute. The Moon's sign: the zodiac sign it is crossing, which changes about every two and a half days. Void of course: the gap between the Moon's last exact aspect and its next sign change.

None of it is a forecast. A calendar says where the Moon is; what you do with a full moon in Scorpio is your business, and our guide to moon phases and rituals is where that side lives.

Where the numbers come from

Every date on these pages is computed with astronomy-engine, the same ephemeris library behind our birth chart calculator, whose longitudes agree with Swiss Ephemeris to a fraction of an arc minute. The new and full moon moments were checked against AstroPixels (Fred Espenak, NASA/GSFC) and agree to better than two minutes. Nothing on these pages is transcribed from another calendar, which is why any month of any covered year is available rather than only the popular ones.

When is the next full moon?

The card at the top of this page shows it with the date, the time on your own clock and the zodiac sign the Moon will be in. Full moons come about every 29 days and 12 hours, so there are usually twelve or thirteen in a year.

Which time zone does this calendar use?

Yours. Everything is calculated in UTC on our side, and your browser converts it to whatever time zone your device is set to — the page names that zone so there is no guessing. A new or full moon is one instant for the entire planet; only the clock reading differs, which is why the same full moon can be Tuesday night in Berlin and Tuesday afternoon in Chicago.

Which years are covered?

2024 through 2029 — every month of every one of those years has its own page. The range runs from a fixed first year to 3 years past the current one, and it grows rather than shifts, so a page that exists today keeps existing.

What is a void-of-course Moon, and why is it on a calendar?

It is the gap between the Moon making its last exact aspect to a planet and entering the next sign — a few hours most days, occasionally more than a day. Traditional practice treats it as a poor window for starting something you want to last, and a good one for finishing, resting and tidying up. Every month page lists the windows with start and end times.

Do you predict anything from these dates?

No. This is a timetable of where the Moon is and when it changes phase and sign, calculated from an ephemeris. What anyone makes of that is interpretation, and nothing here forecasts events or gives medical, financial or legal advice.
