Chinese Zodiac Calculator

Find your Chinese zodiac animal, its element and energy from your date of birth.

The Chinese year begins at Chinese New Year (late Jan–mid Feb), so births in January or early February may belong to the previous animal — this tool accounts for that.

How the Chinese zodiac calculator works

The Chinese zodiac runs on a twelve-year cycle, each year ruled by an animal — Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Your animal is set by the Chinese lunar year you were born in, which begins at Chinese New Year rather than on 1 January. If you were born in January or early February, you may belong to the previous year's animal — this calculator checks the exact New Year date for your year so your result is correct.

Your animal, element and energy

There's more to your sign than the animal. A five-element cycle — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water — layers over the animals on a sixty-year rhythm, and each year is either Yang (active) or Yin (receptive). So you're not just a Dragon, you might be a Yang Wood Dragon. Your element shades how your animal expresses itself.
